ABOUT ME

Ms. Stephanie Chan first began taking piano lessons at the age of six. A native Texan, she relocated to the Bay Area in 2011 to pursue her Master of Music in Piano at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying under Yoshikazu Nagai. Her growing interest in education led her to work as a music teaching assistant in SFUSD elementary schools. This experience in classrooms inspired her to look into teacher training programs and by a stroke of luck, she discovered the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute (BATTI), in which she obtained a California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of the Pacific.

As a performer, Stephanie has already had extensive experience, winning many awards in piano competitions, including several first prizes awarded in Young Artist level competitions sponsored by the Texas Music Teachers Association. In addition to two performances at Kennedy Center, she has been a guest recitalist for Wichita Falls Symphony League's First Night in the Falls Arts Festival and the Rockport Performing Arts Series. She has appeared on the national radio show From The Top, which showcases talented young musicians from across the country, as well as on KUHF 88.7, Houston’s Public Radio station, in live performances and interviews. Stephanie has soloed with numerous orchestras, including the Moores School Symphony Orchestra, Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra, Clear Lake Symphony, and Symphony North of Houston. She has been invited to participate in master classes of many great pianists, such as Abbey Simon, Steven Kovacevich, Daejin Kim, Olga Kern, Nelita True, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and Peter Frankl.

Although she still enjoys performing, Stephanie has shifted her focus to general education and has been keeping very busy as a kindergarten teacher in Fremont Unified School District. Until recently, she was also on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Pre-College division, where she taught private piano lessons to students ages 6 to 11 and co-created and taught Sound Safari, a group keyboard course for the young beginner.
